Ozark Zymurgists August Chapter Meeting Minutes

Membership Attendance: 13 of 26 Present (Quorum)

Guest Attendance:

• Meeting was called to order at 7:08 and began with a toast to Jack McAuliffe from Keith Linn.
• Beer introductions commenced after the toast.  12 beers were introduced from 6 brewers.
• Motion was made by Mike Lewis and seconded by Marsha Farmer to approve the minutes from the May 2025 Chapter Meeting.  Motion carried 11/1 (Randy dissented).
• Justin Hart presented a financial report and announced he had collected dues from 26 members.  We have $3,894.06 on hand. 18 members are also paid AHA members.
• Darin Dickson reviewed BotY standings.  First Place: Doc Farmer, Second Place: Dave Kapple, Third Place: Steve Offutt
• Old Business began at 7:23pm
  • OZ August Social:  Will be at the Fermentary in Lowell at 1pm on Sunday August 17th.  We will also judge Big Brew Day submissions for club submission to Big Brew Day competition in Colorado.  
  • Iron Brewer:  David Johnson reminded the membership about the upcoming categories.
  • Hop Off 2025:  David Johnson and other members who participated gave a review of the event and our connection to Central Arkansas Fermenters.  Fun was had by all and we would like to participate next year.
  • Tulsa Oktoberfest 2025:  Darin Dickson gave an overview of the event and the desire to go on Thursday, Oct 16 and come back Friday so as not to interfere with NWA/Rogers Oktoberfest on Sat. Oct 18.  Let Darin know if you are interested.
  • NWA/Rogers Oktoberfest 2025:  Darin Dickson gave an overview of the last planning meeting.  Setup will be pretty much like last year except we’ll look a ton more coordinated because of our cool banner and tablecloths.  Event is on Sat. Oct 18th in Downtown Rogers.  
  • Christmas Party Committee 2025:  Doc Farmer gave an update, no location yet except we know the Food Pantry location is out.  Looking at Dec 6 or 7th.  
  • New Membership Committee 2025:  David Johnson gave a quick update.  No decisions made yet.
• MOTION: Randy Germann made a motion for the club to hold a raffle at a future meeting for the chance for a member to brew a holiday beer for the party and the club would pay for the ingredients.  Doc Farmer seconded the motion.  Motion carried Unanimously.

• New Business began at 7:46pm
  • 501c3 Status:  Mike Lewis reported that the paperwork had been submitted.  Waiting for approval.
  • Learn to Homebrew Day:  Nov 1st.  The club will be recognizing the day at Germannfest 2025.
  • Arkansas State Fair Submissions:  Find details here.  Larry McAllister or John Lee offered to help get submissions to Little Rock.  
  • No new business from the floor.
• Education Session began at 8:01
  • David Johnson gave a presentation about shortening the brew day entitled “Short and Shoddy Brewday”.  It was a good lesson about how to get out of your head and just enjoy brewing.
